Ever since watching Banana Foster being made on television, I’ve wanted to try my hand at lighting food on fire. Toby, my husband, wasn’t that thrilled since my track record with fire isn’t the greatest. Despite misgivings and visions of setting the house on fire, I decided to give it a try. A copy of the recipe and a video of my journey are here for your viewing pleasure. It tasted good and was easy to make. Want to hear the good news? I didn’t need the fire extinguisher! Enjoy!
The cheating tip: Use a lighter!
I thought i’d copy which recipe you used in case anyone want to try it! 😀
Recipe
SINGLE BATCH (SERVES 2-4)
1 Ounce Butter
1⁄2 Cup Light Brown Sugar
1⁄4 Tsp Cinnamon
1 1⁄2 Ounces Banana Liqueur
1 1⁄2 Ounces Aged Rum
1⁄2 Banana Per Customer
DOUBLE BATCH (SERVES 5-8)
2 Ounce Butter
1 Cup Light Brown Sugar 1⁄2 Tsp Cinnamon
2 Ounces Banana Liqueur 1 1⁄2 Ounces Aged Rum
1⁄2 Banana Per Customer
METHOD
Combine butter, sugar, and cinnamon in a flambé pan.
As the butter melts under medium heat, add the banana liquor and stir to combine.
As the sauce starts to cook, peel and add the bananas to the pan.
Cook the bananas until they begin to soften (about 1-2 minutes)
Tilt back the pan to slightly heat the far edge. Once hot carefully add the rum, and tilt the pan toward the flame, to ignite the rum.
Stir the sauce to ensure that all of the alcohol cooks out.
Serve cooked bananas over ice cream and top with the sauce in the pan
I absolutely love Bananas and cake. I am very hopeful in trying this recipe. I watched you do it. You made it look easier than I think it will be though. Did you serve it out of the skillet onto the bowl or did u place it in a pan for presentation? Because if this is tasty I would like to know How I would make it presentable. Thanks
:/ We ate it out of the pan. I enjoy cooking, but am not good at presenting.
This looks really good. I also enjoy cooking , so I think this is something I would enjoy trying. Especially, if it involves fire. Hopefully I will not burn anything up.
Lol great story, good thing you didn’t burn the house down!! This sounds good to serve at a small get together, will be trying to accomplish this recipe this summer. Next time make the story a little longer please, enjoyed reading the little that was written !
I don’t like bananas like that but I know you have had banana pudding. My mom makes that all the time. That’s the best dessert ever. The only time that I will eat bananas.
This caught my attention i go to I Hop just to get the Banana foster french toast every time. I love food. I would be happy to be one of your victims on this particular dish. I think when you first started you should have heated the pan first and cut the butter stick into smaller pieces. As far as lighting the fire i thought it was funny when you said you weren’t coordinated with fire. I truly was excepting to see something get caught on fire. I’m sorry. Overall, I would imagine your an amazing cook. Great dish its looks delicious!
I love to make desserts more than cooking meals. Baking is my kitchen passion. This segment is introduced so even an amateur can do it. Great motivator to get at home chefs to experiment with new techniques and styles to create a dish that has not been made before. It is a fun challenge.
I really enjoy cooking, and i also like bananas so this really caught my attention. But i also like serving people in an elegant way, so how would you serve this to your guests making it look presentable as possible.
I love cooking and watching the cooking channel so i enjoyed your short clip of this new recipe. Cooking with fire is always much more amusing that simply sticking something in the oven. The ingredients seem simple and the recipe seemed short and easy to follow so I just might give it a try soon. The flames wasn’t as dramatic as I hoped but it still appeared to turn out just fine. On a cold night like tonight, I sure could use a bit to warm me up inside. Thank the lord there was no need to use the fire extinguisher therefore your attempt as this new recipe was a success after all.
